St. Paul's is a campus ministry, which, when loosely
translated from the original Greek, means "Really cool church with lots
of crazy events." You can check out the calendar to
find out all upcoming activities. Also, to get the latest updates and

Chapel Life at a Glance
Student Leadership Team
The Student Leadership Team meets once a week for
study, prayer,
and planning. They are the folks who oraganize for the Nerf Wars,
Hometown Tours, Chili Supper, Ultimate Frisbee, Sardines Night, and
much of the other crazy stuff that goes on around the Chapel. They
plan events, order cake and chicken, visit new students, and
generally keep St. Paul's running at the speed of fun.
If you're interested and would like more information about student
leadership, contact Pastor Mons
at maxmons@juno.com or drop by
his office during the week.
International Student Ministry
The International Student Ministry is designed to reach out to students from foreign nations attending the University of Iowa and their families. The program includes classes, social events, and conversation classes, with many opportunities to volunteer and get involved. For more information, check out our ISM page.
Mission Trips
One of the many opportunities we have been blessed with here at St. Paul's is to take our ministry beyond Iowa City and share the message of Christ's love across the globe. Our mission trips have been entirely student-organized, funded in part by Thrivent and in part by money raised by the members of the mission teams.
Lithuania
In the summer of 2006, fifteen students travelled to Palanga, Lithuania to assist in construction of a church building. During Lithuania's time as a part of the Soviet Union, the Christian Church was heavily persecuted, and many church buildings destroyed or appropriated by the government for alternate purposes.
Kenya
A team of five students accompanied Kenya native and Chapel member Martin Thuo to his home village of Nyacaba, Kenya in the summer of 2008. This trip focused on Nyacaba Primary and two other schools in nearby villages, where students taught classes, gave presentations,
and spent time with the children. Team members also collected school supplies, clothing, and shoes for the students, many of whom cannot afford everything they need.
South Korea
In August 2011, a team of seven chapel students spent two weeks in South Korea. They taught at an English camp, which was an outreach
of the Korean Lutheran Church to their community. The students also had time to immerse themselves in Korean culture and see many of the beautiful sites in and around Seoul.
For the Future?
We are not currently in active planning for another mission trip, but opportunities abound all over the world. If you're interested in organizing or being part of a new mission team, let us know!
Home Away from Home
This program is organized by the permanent congregation families here at St. Paul's to support students at the University of Iowa. Students are matched with families, who host them for home-made meals, a chance to do laundry, or just to get away from the dorms for a little while. Families also get together to make care packages and deliver them to students during finals week. Fill out a form in the Student Center or email us if you'd like to sign up.
